SelectOR is a more modern and more complete menu and launcher for Open Rails. See your routes and trains in 3D and start the simulation in one click. While you drive you get a HUD, a mini-map, a cab panel and station announcements. And if you like, you can share a railway company with other drivers.
Features
Everything you need to drive in Open Rails
It does not modify Open Rails: it reuses the components you already have installed and starts its simulator with your content.
Trains in 3D and 2D
A rotatable 3D view of the locomotive and the full 2D consist, car by car, before you set off.
Time, season and weather
In Explore mode you choose the path, time of day, season and weather. The track map shows the start and the destination.
HUD and mini-map
On top of the simulator: track, stations and your train on the map, with a zoom that is remembered. Timer, distance, passengers and a large map.
Cab panel with controls
Air gauges, brake cylinder and a speedometer with braking curve and speed-limit signs. The icons work doors, pantograph, lights, sander and horns.
Station announcements
Announcements recorded by your company that play as you approach each stop, per line, triggered by distance or by seconds.
Railway companies
Create or join a company with other drivers. It has a fleet, a bank, recorded services, ranks, badges and rankings.
Consist editor
Create and edit trains (.con): add, remove, reorder and flip cars. Check length, mass, power and seats.
Signed updates
SelectOR tells you about each new version and updates itself. It only installs packages carrying the author's digital signature.
Before you set off
Choose with everything in view
- Search routes and trains, and double-click to mark your favourites.
- Choose the path with Starting at and Heading to, and check the route map.
- If the train belongs to your company's fleet, SelectOR tells you whether it is available.
- Press DRIVE and Open Rails starts with your selection.
While you drive
A cab panel that responds
- A smooth needle, a scale matched to each train and a digital readout.
- A diamond shows the current limit. When it is time to brake, a circle announces the next limit.
- The yellow triangle marks the cruise control target speed.
- The controls use the same keys you have set up in Open Rails.
Online mode (optional)
Your own railway company
- Every service is recorded automatically: distance measured live, real time, passengers and accounts.
- You get a bank with income and costs, a fleet with maintenance and number plates, and train purchase and rental.
- You rank up with the kilometres you drive and earn badges for your achievements.
- An anti-cheat system discards impossible trips.

Requirements
Before you install
Open Rails web server active on port 2150
- In SelectOR press OR Options, or open the Open Rails Options.
- Go to the System tab.
- Set Web server port to 2150 and press OK.
Without it, the driving tools (HUD, mini-map, cab panel, passengers and station announcements) do not appear. SelectOR connects to 127.0.0.1:2150, only inside your own computer.

Installation

Download
Get the SelectOR 1.2.34 ZIP and unzip it.
Find Open Rails
Locate the folder that contains
OpenRails.exeandRunActivity.exe.Copy
Copy the contents of «Folder Open Rails» into that folder. Nothing of Open Rails is overwritten.
Port 2150
Check that Web server port is 2150 in the Open Rails Options.
Let's drive!
Open SelectOR.exe. Later versions install themselves from the update notice.
Companies
Three roles, one company
It is optional and needs an internet connection. You sign up with a username and a password in the Companies tab itself.
Drives services with the fleet's trains and checks services, the bank, rankings and their profile.
Does the same as a driver. On top of that, buys and rents trains, looks after the fleet, admits members and records the station announcements.
Creates the company. Can do everything a supervisor does and also assigns the roles, including manager.
Service rules:
- Trips shorter than 3 km or than 5 minutes are not recorded.
- An average speed above 350 km/h marks the trip as invalid.
- Each fleet unit can only be used by one driver at a time.
What's new
Version 1.2.34
- Full English. With Open Rails in English, SelectOR is now entirely in English: station announcements, cab panel, profile, locomotive purchase and the messages that were missing.
Recent earlier versions
1.2.32
- Edit name. Works again: it changes your display name in companies, members and rankings. You still sign in with your usual login name or your email.
1.2.30
- Short trips. Besides trips shorter than 3 km, company trips with less than 5 minutes of driving are no longer recorded.
- Station announcements. The station where the scenario starts is no longer announced, neither when you pick the announcements with the train stopped nor when you leave.
- Station announcements. The HUD row only appears on trains with declared passenger seats.

- Cab panel. The yellow triangle marks the cruise control target speed. The track limit is shown as a sign: a diamond with the current limit and a circle with the next one when it is time to brake.
- Mini-map. It zooms with the mouse wheel or the +/− buttons, and the zoom is remembered. Track and train line up using the same projection as Open Rails.
- Display scaling. Text, table cells and drop-down lists are no longer cut off with Windows scaling at 125 % or 150 %.
Frequently asked questions
Any problems?
The HUD, mini-map and cab panel do not appear when I drive
Check that the Open Rails Web server port is 2150 and that no other program is using that port. Run Open Rails windowed or in borderless full screen. The tools appear once the scenario has loaded.
SelectOR says .NET is missing
Install the .NET Desktop Runtime 8: choose «Desktop Runtime», x64.
It says «SelectOR · wrong folder» and does not open
SelectOR has to be inside the Open Rails folder, next to OpenRails.exe. Copy all the contents of «Folder Open Rails» there.
I cannot see my routes or trains
Add your content folders in the Open Rails Options and choose the right set under «Content». Press F5 to read the content again.
My company trip was not recorded
Trips shorter than 3 km or than 5 minutes are not recorded. If there was a connection error, press «Register service» in Companies.
The station announcements do not play
Check the following:
- the train has passenger seats;
- your company has announcements enabled and audio for that route;
- the HUD speaker is not crossed out;
- you have picked a line (or the base voice) in the list.
How do I uninstall it?
Delete the SelectOR.* and shape.mgfx files from the Open Rails folder. Nothing else of Open Rails is touched.

Free and open source. After that, SelectOR updates itself.
